The magical motivation of sunflowers is undeniable. As Helen Keller famously said, “Keep your face to the sunshine & you cannot see the shadows. It’s what the sunflowers do!” Even on the darkest days, sunflowers stand tall and find the sunlight. As J.R. Rim put it, “Sunflowers end up facing the sun, but they go through a lot of dirt to find their way.” Run through Las Vegas’ historic Gilcrease Orchard’s massive sunflower field. Beyond Limits Running, the producer of the inspirational Beyond Limits Ultra and the groovy Happy Hippie Harvest Run, is proud to present the 3nd Annual Bee-utiful Sunflower Run on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at the nearly 100-year-old Gilcrease Orchard. The Bee-utiful Sunflower run has become a Mother’s Day tradition held at this iconic Orchard.
The run, which starts at 8:30 AM and features a 5K, 10K and 1-Mile Kids Sunflower Fairy Stroll, takes place just as the course-side sunflowers are in full bloom at the Orchard. In addition, due to overwhelming demand, there is now an early-bird 5K race option that starts at 6:30 AM. In addition to receiving a glossy sunflower themed finisher’s medal when crossing through the one-of-a-kind sunflower themed finishing arch, runners will also be handed a ridiculously large fresh cut sunflower, a starter packet of sunflower seeds, a sunflower bumper sticker and of course a few sunflower tattoos. As with all Beyond Limit Running events, downloads of all professional race photos are free. The timing is perfect as you can present mom or grandma a freshly cut massive sunflower on Mother’s Day. With the race being walker and stroller friendly, the whole family can participate together and of course, feel free to dress to impress with sunflower themed outfits. The perfect way to kick-off a memorable Mother’s Day. With race options now starting as early as 6:30 AM, there’s still plenty of morning left to attend a local Mother’s Day Brunch around town after the race.
Packet pick-up will take place Saturday, May 11th at Gilcrease Orchard from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Day of race packet pick-up is available starting at 5:00 AM. Packets can be picked up until 30 minutes before each race starts. You CAN pick-up packets for friends and family. PLEASE NOTE – The Orchard is closed to the public the day of the event and a paid registration is required in order to gain entry to this private fundraising event. ALL entrants must register for either the 1-Mile Fairy Stroll, 5K race, or 10K race in order to enter the Orchard as capacity is strictly limited.
Besides running amongst massive rows of smiling sunflowers at roughly the 2-mile mark of the course (new for 2024), you’ll also run past apples, pears, peaches, cucumbers, sweet potato, squash, eggplant and of course the famous Gilcrease Orchard pumpkins as they start their journey towards Halloween. Since the 3.1 mile flat and fast course meanders through the entire 67-acre orchard, runners will have a chance to get say hello to the resident chickens, tortoises, bees and owls without worrying about traffic or public interference. You’ll smile as big as the fresh-cut sunflower you receive at the finish line knowing your participation in the Bee-utiful Sunflower Run helps the non-profit Gilcrease Orchard continue their mission of serving Southern Nevada.
In order to give runners and walkers of all abilities the chance to enjoy the sunflowers and beauty of Gilcrease Orchard, the 5K and 10K have stress-free time limits of 75-minutes and 2-hours respectively.
